ArmInfo. Armenian politician and member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Arman Abovyan has assumed the position of public relations officer and official spokesman for the political party, while its leader, Gagik Tsarukyan, is under arrest. The politician announced this on his Facebook page.
According to him, in the current situation, this decision is one of the important steps in the framework of crisis management. "Given the injustice that occurred in the 2026 parliamentary elections, in particular the theft of approximately 60,000 votes received by the PAP and the corresponding parliamentary mandates, which PACE recently drew attention to in its report, the party has a vast front of work to undertake, not only within Armenia but also in interactions with international structures and partners. The PAP is actively moving in this direction, and from now on, I will regularly present important processes and events related to the party's activities. "And, of course, our top priority remains the release of Gagik Tsarukyan. We will make every effort to achieve his freedom and restore justice," Abovyan wrote.
As a reminder, on July 6, Prosperous Armenia Party leader and businessman Gagik Tsarukyan was detained and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia. He is accused of organizing fraud and money laundering on an especially large scale. According to investigators, between 2022 and 2024, a group operating under his leadership, under the pretext of developing trade and economic ties between Armenia and Iran, created joint legal entities with the participation of Iranian citizens, after which they carried out a fraudulent scheme, causing damages totaling over $21 million.
Furthermore, Gagik Tsarukyan faces another charge of illegal hunting. On July 7, the court granted the prosecution's motion to remand Tsarukyan in custody for two months.
As part of the case, on July 6, law enforcement agencies conducted searches at more than 70 addresses associated with Tsarukyan. The doors of all businesses were subsequently sealed. Some of them were nationalized by the state. On September 4, the court extended Tsarukyan's detention for another two months.
