ArmInfo. Property worth 1.2 billion drams will be confiscated from the heirs and affiliates of the late General Manvel Grigoryan. The court decision on the confiscation of property of illegal origin has entered into force, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia reports.
Manvel Grigoryan was one of Armenia's leading military leaders, having received the rank of Lieutenant General in the Armenian Army back in 2000 and the highest title . From 2000 to 2008, he served as Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia. For nearly two decades (from 1999 to 2018), Grigoryan permanently headed the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, a powerful and influential organization of war veterans that wielded colossal political influence in the country. He effectively became the first "victim" of the new authorities' anti-corruption campaign, facing political obstruction and losing his immunity. The general was arrested on charges of large-scale embezzlement, tax evasion, and illegal weapons possession. Due to a sharp decline in his health in early 2020, Grigoryan was released from custody on bail, and in November 2020, he died at the age of 64. He was denied burial in the Yerablur military pantheon. Despite his death, the trials continued. In 2023, the court issued a posthumous guilty verdict in the embezzlement case, and in the fall of 2025 and early 2026, decisions to confiscate a large amount of illegally acquired property and assets from his legal heirs in favor of the state came into force.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the defendants filed appeals against the Anti-Corruption Court's decision, which were partially upheld. The cassation appeals filed against the decision of the Court of Appeal of July 3, 2026, were not accepted for proceedings by the decisions of the Court of Cassation of October 14, 2026.
Thus, in accordance with the judicial act that has entered into legal force, the following will be confiscated from the heirs of Manvel Grigoryan and persons affiliated with him in favor of the Republic of Armenia: 9 real estate properties (as of 2023, the total market value of the real estate was 811,400,000 drams), 6 movable property, a deposit in the amount of 18,371,325 drams, a loan in the amount of 300,049,322 drams, cash in the amount of 17,135,233 drams, and a 15.9456% share in the company .
