ArmInfo. Since early morning, mass searches and detentions of supporters of the "Strong Armenia" movement and businessman Samvel Karapetyan have been underway in Stepanavan. Andranik Gevorgyan, a member of the Armenian parliament from the "Strong Armenia" opposition faction, reported this on his Facebook page. "The authorities' actions are extremely predictable, but what is happening is already beyond the pale: yesterday's demonstration of "democracy" and today's blatant violations of the law are clear proof of this," the MP wrote.
It should be noted that the day before, the Armenian Prime Minister proposed that citizens and candidates for community heads in the local government elections who are under pressure from the ruling "Civil Contract" party write to him personally. However, by the evening of the same day, he himself began threatening representatives of the opposition forces. It should be added that local government elections will be held in Stepanavan on October 25. The "Strong Armenia" bloc has nominated Arsen Gevorgyan for the post of community head. Stepanavan is one of the few communities in Armenia where Pashinyan's ruling party suffered a significant defeat in the June 7 parliamentary elections, securing very low public support.
