ArmInfo. The Office of the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, Magdalena Grono, responded to an appeal from the organization "Hayakve" regarding the official's visit to occupied Artsakh as part of a tour organized by Azerbaijan on September 11-12.
Ayakve They said they sent a protest to Grono, expecting a clear position on the Armenian historical and cultural heritage of Artsakh, Armenian identity, and the right of return of the forcibly displaced Armenian population.
Gronno's office responded that the diplomatic visit cannot be seen as legitimizing Azerbaijani narratives, and that diplomats on the ground raised questions and concerns with the Azerbaijani side.
"It should be noted that this response, while acknowledging the importance of the issue, does not address all the issues we raised. "Hayakve" is preparing to re-approach Magdalena Grono with a series of specific questions regarding Artsakh. "We will consistently seek clear and unambiguous answers to these questions, rather than limiting ourselves to diplomatic language about cultural heritage, conflict resolution, and the need for reconciliation, "Hayakve" said in a statement published on Facebook.
It should be noted that Grono and several EU officials were part of the delegation that visited occupied Artsakh on September 11-12, where Azerbaijani authorities, in an attempt to rewrite the region's history, among other things, portrayed ancient Armenian churches and monasteries as Albanian.
