ArmInfo. On October 17th, the Art Embassy contemporary art gallery will host the opening of a solo exhibition by contemporary artist, curator, graphic designer, musician, and philosopher Bagrat Arazyan.
The project, titled "Silence," consists of 13 original photographs that combine real-life motifs with digital manipulation. Arazyan thus creates a unique dialogue between the background and the selected objects, which become an integral part of the composition and imbue it with meaning.
In an interview with an ArmInfo correspondent, the artist explained that the "Silence" project is actually dedicated to the borderland between "here" and "the beyond." He explains that it is precisely at the moment when a person finds themselves on this border and realizes that literally one step can lead them anywhere that a ringing silence descends. "And you need to immerse yourself in this silence to see something important for yourself and understand what your next step should be," Arazyan shared.
It can be assumed that in the "Silence" project, the visual image becomes a kind of space for reflection, in which the viewer must find their own answers.
It is worth noting that Arazyan's artistic practice is often characterized as visual analysis, distinguished by its distinctive philosophical depth and emotional sincerity. It is noteworthy that this is far from the artist's first exhibition in Armenia.
Back in 1994, he presented his project at the Museum of Modern Art, and in 2020, an exhibition of his works was held there. After moving to Slovenia in 2015, Arazyan continued to develop artistic projects in Armenia. Thus, in 2024, he created the project "Fragments" together with artist Kima Arutyunyan, and in 2025, his large-scale project "Frontier" was presented at the Museum of Modern Art.
Answering a question about how he feels when exhibiting in his historical homeland and in other countries, Arutyunyan shared that, wherever he is, he feels like an outsider. Although for many this feeling has a negative connotation, the artist perceives it differently, finding a positive side to it.
In Armenia, he said, interest in him stems from the fact that his experience differs from the local one. "At the same time, I know and understand both the local and European situation. Moreover, the curator profession is practically nonexistent here, and I'm one of Slovenia's leading curators. This, I believe, is also why I attract interest from the Armenian art community," the artist explained.
The exhibition of Bagrat Arazyan's works will be open to the public from October 17th to 25th. The Art Embassy Gallery is located at 28 Sayat-Nova Avenue. Admission is free.
