ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who arrived in Armenia to participate in the leaders' summit of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be held from October 19 to 30.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on COP17 and its upcoming discussions. They also touched on regional processes, including the progress of the TRIPP project, emphasizing its importance for unlocking regional communications and developing cooperation.
Regarding COP17, the Prime Minister noted that it is the largest event ever organized in the Republic of Armenia and expressed confidence that it will be held at a high level.
In turn, António Guterres thanked the Armenian side for the warm welcome and excellent organization of COP17. "My colleagues tell me that it's always difficult to reach a joint statement or agreement during negotiations. Armenia has demonstrated outstanding diplomatic skills, working wonders to bring together diverse opinions and perspectives. In all areas of the COP's work—be it biodiversity or climate—the high quality of Armenian leadership and diplomacy is truly noticeable," the UN Secretary-General stated.
At the same time, Guterres emphasized the importance of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting Prime Minister Pashinyan's personal contribution to this process.
In turn, the head of the Armenian government noted that the situation in the region, after going through very difficult events, has been reversed. "Now our main goal is to reach the end point, I mean the signing and ratification of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This is our primary goal, which we must focus on, as achieving it will not be easy," Pashinyan stated.
