ArmInfo. Today, October 15 at 2:00 PM, an open court hearing will begin in the case of Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP). The prosecution accuses him of organizing fraud and legalizing (laundering) money on an especially large scale. The case will be heard by Judge Manvel Shahverdyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.
Ahead of the hearing, posters in support of Tsarukyan appeared in various parts of Yerevan. They read: "Freedom for Gagik Tsarukyan" and "The Armenian people are with Tsarukyan."
As a reminder, on July 6, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan, a businessman, was detained and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia. He is accused of organizing fraud and money laundering on an especially large scale. According to investigators, between 2022 and 2024, a group operating under his leadership created joint legal entities with Iranian citizens under the pretext of developing trade and economic ties between Armenia and Iran. They then carried out a fraudulent scheme, causing damages totaling over $21 million. In addition, Gagik Tsarukyan faces another charge of illegal hunting. On July 7, the court granted the prosecution's motion to remand Tsarukyan in custody for two months. As part of the case, on July 6, law enforcement agencies conducted searches at more than 70 addresses associated with Tsarukyan. The doors of all businesses were subsequently sealed. Some of them were nationalized by the state. On September 4, the court extended Tsarukyan's arrest for another two months.
The PAP leader denies guilt and is confident that justice will prevail and his innocence will be proven in court.
