ArmInfo. Armenia is in constant contact with its Turkish colleagues as part of the process of normalizing bilateral relations. About this Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated at a press conference with his Swiss counterpart, OSCE Chairman-in-Office Ignazio Cassis.
Recalling the previously reached agreements, Mirzoyan emphasized that the ultimate goal of the negotiations is the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border.
"The process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations has reached such a stage that final and complete normalization is possible any day," he added.
When asked whether the name of Armenia's new special representative for normalization is known, Mirzoyan noted that it remains to be seen whether there will be a need to appoint such a special representative given the agreements already reached within the normalization process.
The launch of the process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations was announced on December 13, 2021, by then-Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. He also emphasized that Ankara would act in coordination with Azerbaijan regarding steps to normalize relations with Armenia. The parties appointed special representatives of Turkey and Armenia for the normalization process, Serdar Kılıç and Ruben Rubinyan, who held several rounds of negotiations but have not yet achieved any breakthroughs, other than launching air cargo and passenger transportation and labeling goods from the two countries by country of origin. After Rubinyan was elected speaker of parliament in August 2026, he resigned as Armenia's special chairman for the normalization process. Armenia has not yet appointed a new special representative.
