ArmInfo. Elections for a new President of the Constitutional Court of Armenia will take place in Yerevan on October 14 at 4:00 PM.
The press service of the Constitutional Court of Armenia explained that Arman Dilanyan's term as President of the Court expired on October 12, 2026. It is noted that Dilanyan will continue to serve as a judge of the Constitutional Court.
The Court further recalled the procedure for electing the President. In particular, it notes that, according to Part 2 of Article 166 of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court elects a President from among its members for a six-year term without the right to re-election. "The procedure for electing the President of the Constitutional Court is established by Article 19 of the Constitutional Law 'On the Constitutional Court' and the Rules of Procedure of the Constitutional Court. Elections for the President of the Constitutional Court are held within ten days of the emergence of a vacant position of President. A candidate for the position of President of the Constitutional Court may be nominated by a Constitutional Court judge, or the candidate may nominate themselves," the court noted.
According to the source, the election of the President of the Constitutional Court is conducted by secret ballot at a meeting of the court's rules of procedure convened for this purpose. "A candidate who receives two-thirds of the votes of the total number of judges of the Constitutional Court may be elected President from among the members of the Constitutional Court; if one candidate is nominated, that candidate is elected by a majority of votes of the total number of judges of the Constitutional Court. If, as a result of the vote, none of the two or more nominated candidates receives the required number of votes, a second round of elections is held within five days, in which the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round participate. "Based on the results of the second round, the candidate who receives the majority of votes from the total number of judges is considered elected," the Constitutional Court explained.
It is also noted that if the voting results do not provide the required number of votes, the election is declared invalid and new elections are organized.
