ArmInfo. Issues related to protecting the state border of Armenia were discussed at meetings between the head of the Scientific and Educational Center of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia and staff of the Center for Security Studies with delegations led by Antje Fritz, Deputy Head of the Europe and Asia Division of the Geneva Center for Security Affairs, and Stephanie Pennington, Program Manager for the Caucasus Region at the US Defense Department's Global Threat Reduction Agency.
According to the NSS press service, the meetings discussed the use of modern methods in protecting the state border and the professional training of border guards, and in this context, the creation of a modern training system for border guards of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia that meets international standards.
During the meeting with the American side, the experience of the Geneva Center and its close cooperation in providing modern education for border guards of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, as well as personnel carrying out operational intelligence activities, were noted. Considering that improving the integrated state border management system is currently a priority for the RA government, the American side particularly emphasized the importance of further supporting the implementation of training and advanced training programs for the National Security Service's border guards within the framework of cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense. The American side expressed its readiness to support the National Security Service in developing and improving border guard training programs, as well as in training its teaching staff.
To improve the integrated state border management system and study border control procedures and operational activities, an NSS delegation visited Finland in September 2026 on a study visit as part of the "Strengthening the Capacity of Armenian Authorities in Border Security and Crime Prevention" program. The delegation visited the Finnish Border and Coast Guard Academy, learned about the academy's structure and educational process, inspected sections of the state border, and also visited Helsinki International Airport, where they learned about the specifics of state border protection and operational procedures related to border control.
