ArmInfo. Today, the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, celebrates its 2808th anniversary.
Yerevan traces its history back to 782 BC, when Argishti I, King of Urartu, founded the Erebuni Fortress. A cuneiform inscription discovered on Arin-Berd Hill, which has survived to this day, testifies to the fortress's founding. It reads: "By the greatness of the god Khaldi, Argishti, son of Menua, built this mighty fortress; he established its name, Erebuni, for the power of the country of Biaini and to intimidate the enemy country." To mark the anniversary, the city will host various events as part of the "Erebuni - Yerevan" City Day. According to the Yerevan City Hall, the beer festival will continue in Diana Abgar Park, and a wine festival will be held on Northern Avenue. A music concert will be held at Charles Aznavour Square featuring the Yervand Yerznkyan Orchestra, Mohana Band, Aram MP3, D'litte, and other performers. Later in the evening, a national music concert will be held on Northern Avenue, and a jazz concert will be held at Cascade. Rap artists will perform in English Park, and an electronic music concert will be held near the singing fountains in Republic Square. Yerevan has been the capital of Armenia since 1918. It is the largest city in Armenia and its administrative, economic, and cultural center, home to about a third of the country's population.
