ArmInfo. Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a fait accompli. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at the CIS summit in Turkmenistan.
"Over the past two years or more, we have had no casualties or injuries as a result of crossfire between Armenians and Azerbaijanis, unlike the last thirty years, when casualties and injuries on both sides occurred every year, starting in the 1990s," foreign media quoted the Prime Minister as saying.
The Armenian Prime Minister referred to the peace agreement signed with Azerbaijan: "The parties, in full compliance with Article 1, confirm that they do not make territorial claims against each other and will not make such claims in the future." The parties will not undertake any actions, including planning, preparing, encouraging, or supporting any activity aimed at the complete or partial division or violation of the territorial integrity or political unity of the other party."
"Since the 2020 war, we have come a long way towards achieving peace. In this context, I would like to particularly emphasize the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in concluding the ceasefire agreement in November 2020. However, unfortunately, even after signing the Declaration of November 9, 2020, we have not been able to achieve peace," the Armenian Prime Minister noted.
He added that the Alma-Ata Declaration played a key role in establishing peace between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister noted that in 2024, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed and ratified the Regulation on the joint activities of the commissions for delimitation of the state border between the two countries. According to Pashinyan, this Regulation is the first bilateral legally binding document signed by independent Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"The document stipulates that the relevant commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be guided by the Alma-Ata Declaration as a fundamental principle in the process of delimiting the state border between the two countries," the Armenian Prime Minister noted.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the Alma-Ata Declaration, one of the founding documents of the CIS, also occupies an important place in the text of the signed agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to him, the Alma-Ata Declaration is mentioned in the preamble of the agreement.
