ArmInfo. On October 8, the Armenian government approved a bill amending the Law "On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen," which raises the maximum draft age to 32 for certain categories of citizens.
The rationale for the bill states that the document is aimed at addressing the needs of undergraduate and graduate students at leading foreign universities. The provision applies to citizens who have received a deferment under Part 8 of Article 22 of the law. It applies to those studying full-time in undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral programs at universities in the top 50 of the Shanghai Ranking. Postgraduate studies often end at the age of 27-28, which is why graduates previously missed out on the deferment for subsequent employment in Armenia, which requires at least three years of work experience in government-defined fields. Now, this threshold has been raised to 32.
