ArmInfo. At its meeting on October 8, the Government of the Republic of Armenia approved the draft law "On Ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the Co-Production of Audiovisual Works in the Form of Series."
The rationale for the draft decision emphasizes that this Convention is an important international legal instrument aimed at developing the modern audiovisual industry. It aims to facilitate the co-production of series, strengthen international cooperation, and ensure the sustainable development of creative industries.
The Convention is the first comprehensive international document regulating the co-production of series intended for television and online platforms, establishing general principles of cooperation and promoting the formation of a comparable and predictable legal environment among participating countries. The signature of the Convention by the Republic of Armenia will provide an opportunity to develop and deepen cooperation with Council of Europe member states, as well as other partner countries, in the audiovisual sector. It will facilitate the participation of Armenian producers in international co-productions, expand opportunities for the production and distribution of Armenian series on international markets, ensure the implementation of advanced European practices and standards in the industry, and enhance the competitiveness and recognition of Armenian audiovisual productions.
Currently, the Convention has been signed by 11 Council of Europe member states: France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Moldova, and the United Kingdom. The document has not yet entered into force; ratification by three states is required, at least two of which must be Council of Europe member states.
