ArmInfo. The work of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has reached a qualitatively new level. This was announced on October 8 at a ceremonial meeting dedicated to the Day of the Investigative Committee Employee, by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to him, the new quality of the agency's work can be seen in the fact that, after 27 years, the high-profile murder of former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security Artsrun Margaryan was solved. As Pashinyan noted, he had previously raised this issue repeatedly as a journalist. Today, as a result of the consistent work of the Investigative Committee's investigators, this crime has finally been solved, for which the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Investigative Committee's staff. "But this raises the question of why this crime has not been solved over the past 27 years? This question raises a number of fundamental issues. "It is also noteworthy that the murder of former Deputy Defense Minister Vahram Khorkhoruni, as well as a number of other high-profile cases, was solved, which cannot but evoke a sense of satisfaction and speaks volumes," the head of state said.
Pashinyan also noted the importance of the Investigative Committee's continued ability to solve such crimes even after many years. He noted in this regard that this is largely due to the consistent development of the Investigative Committee's work. It should also be noted that the country's government provides this agency with all the necessary assistance. Almost all issues raised by the Investigative Committee are resolved by the executive body. Nevertheless, it is crucial that all crimes committed receive a proper assessment by the Investigative Committee, since in this case, we are talking about public trust in state institutions, so that citizens feel they live in a just country and a safe environment. "In this context, it is equally important that the country has a reliable system of social guarantees for Investigative Committee investigators. This policy will be developed, but on the other hand, it is necessary to understand that many issues are interconnected, including the state budget's capacity. In this case, it is not only about compensation for damages, but also about investors' confidence in the ability to protect their rights by operating under equal competitive conditions," the head of state said.
It should be noted that on June 5, the Investigative Committee of Armenia officially announced the solving of the high-profile murder of the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security of the Republic of Armenia, Major General Artsrun Margaryan, committed 27 years ago. According to the criminal case materials, on February 9, 1999, at approximately 3:30 PM, Artsrun Margaryan's body was found with gunshot wounds in a vacant lot near the intersection of the Yerevan-Sevan highway and the Nor Hajn-Avan road. Initially, the official's bodyguards (Arsen and Armen Khachatryan) were charged with murder, but the investigation later concluded that Margaryan had allegedly committed suicide, and the criminal prosecution was dropped. Following the investigation into newly discovered circumstances, initiated by Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, the body was exhumed and a new forensic examination was conducted. The examination and investigative actions revealed that Artsrun Margaryan was killed by shots fired by his bodyguard (identified as A.Kh.). A public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the suspect.
