
ArmInfo. A regular meeting of the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan.
According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Mirzoyan delivered an opening speech, touching upon the priorities of Armenia's participation in multilateral platforms, issues of cooperation with UNESCO, and initiatives arising from the foreign policy agenda.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, representatives of the administrations of the President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the Yerevan Municipality, the Matenadaran, and other agencies.
During the session, Andreasyan presented the initiatives of the Republic of Armenia to inscribe new sites on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative and Core Lists and the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage Heritage, as well as applications for inscription on the International Memory of the World Register and ongoing work on them.
Participants discussed steps aimed at ensuring Armenia's active participation in culture and education, including membership of the Republic's cities in the Creative Learning Cities Network, expanding participation in the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet), and implementing innovative approaches in all of these areas. An exchange of views took place on proposals to include anniversaries in the UNESCO calendar for 2028-2029.
In the context of discussing the advantages of implementing various programs, the importance of their strategic choice in terms of the economic development of the Republic of Armenia and their direct impact on public life was also emphasized.
Matevosyan emphasized the interconnectedness of environmental protection and natural heritage preservation, as well as possible prospects for developing international cooperation in this area on the part of Armenia, including as the host country of the COP17 conference. Among other initiatives, the intensification of cooperation within the Man and the Biosphere program was discussed.
During the session, an exchange of views took place on issues of continuously improving the Commission's structural and professional capacity in line with the expansion of areas of cooperation with UNESCO.
