ArmInfo. It is necessary to understand under what circumstances a serviceman of the Azerbaijani armed forces ended up on the territory of Armenia. This was stated by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Ruben Rubinyan, at a briefing on October 6, commenting on the incident in the village of Shaki.
According to the speaker, the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is the longest. Moreover, this border has only been partially delimited. Part of it is guarded by border guards, the other part by servicemen of the armed forces. Since 1991, Rubinyan continued, servicemen from both sides have found themselves on each other's territory for various reasons, with the exception of sabotage operations. In recent periods, when such incidents occurred, especially after the establishment of peace, the parties generally returned these soldiers to each other. But there were also cases where the servicemen themselves did not want to return.
"In the case of the Shaki incident, it is necessary to establish whether the Azerbaijani soldier was a deserter or got lost. One thing is clear: in this case, there is no talk of sabotage. If it were sabotage, the Azerbaijani side would not have notified the Armenian side in advance. The good news is that there is no attempt to invade Armenian territory. We are dealing with one soldier who illegally crossed the border. It is also clear that this soldier committed a crime while in Armenia, as he entered people's homes and shot at them, and that is a crime. This is precisely why he was arrested and charged," said Ruben Rubinyan.
He added that, against this backdrop, it is unclear what the opposition is fighting; essentially, it is a war against a non-existent opinion. The speaker noted that investigative measures are underway in this case, and work is underway to assess the situation. "The opposition constantly points out that this case is supposedly a clear example of the lack of peace. But excuse me, this is exactly the case where the subject is not Azerbaijan, but a deserter who illegally left his military unit," the speaker of the National Assembly noted.
As a reminder, on October 1, it became known that armed Azerbaijani soldier Nasimi Musayev, who illegally entered Armenia and broke into a house in the village of Shaki in the Syunik region, attacked children and their mother. As a result of the ensuing struggle, the homeowner, Ani Avetisyan, was injured (she sustained a gunshot wound), as were her two children. While resisting, Avetisyan managed to stab an Azerbaijani soldier. Security forces arriving at the scene detained Musayev. A criminal case has been opened, and the Azerbaijani soldier has been arrested for two months.
