ArmInfo. Had the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia maintained neutrality during today's clashes between opposition MPs and members of the ruling party, the situation could have ended very badly for the opposition itself. This was stated by NA Speaker Ruben Rubinyan at a briefing on October 6.
According to him, it was precisely this position that prevented the potential developments. "Overall, I have an extremely negative assessment of what happened, but we must also acknowledge the fact that some MPs from the Strong Armenia faction are deliberately and constantly provoking the situation. Moreover, this is being done by those MPs from this faction who represent the wing of the Republican Party, which is known for its low moral standards," the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament noted. However, he found it difficult to predict whether these steps were being taken on behalf of the entire faction or not.
It should be noted that several clashes and verbal altercations occurred in the National Assembly this morning between deputies of the ruling Civil Contract party and the opposition Strong Armenia party.
