ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities are unable to address the real security challenges facing the country. Anna Grigoryan, head of the opposition parliamentary faction of the Armenia bloc, stated this at a press conference on October 5, commenting on the incident in the Armenian village of Shaki, where an armed Azerbaijani serviceman infiltrated.
According to Anna Grigoryan, the public learned of the soldier's disappearance and his reappearance in Armenia from reports from Azerbaijani intelligence services. The MP expressed bewilderment at the authorities' handling of the situation. She wondered what would have happened if a group of well-organized saboteurs had infiltrated Armenia and how they would have defended themselves, especially local residents, who would likely have needed to unite in self-defense units. "Government agencies are busy with their own PR; they enjoy their quiet life while persecuting the opposition." For this reason, they simply cannot address real security challenges. By the way, when they say they searched for 2-3 days and couldn't find him, does anyone doubt that if they were searching for an opposition politician, it wouldn't have taken them more than a few minutes? "They would have scrambled all their drones and done everything possible to find this politician, because that's precisely the current rulers' priorities," Anna Grigoryan noted. Continuing on this topic, Levon Kocharyan, a member of the National Assembly from the same faction, noted that there was not a single video recording of the Azerbaijani soldier's arrest: how he was detained, how he was loaded into the car. "Is it really only when opposition members are detained that video footage with musical accompaniment can be prepared?" Why do we see Gagik Tsarukyan's house being broken into and thrown to the ground, but we see and know nothing about how an Azerbaijani entered an Armenian family, took them hostage, and then opened fire? Because it could harm the so-called peace? During the presidency of my father, Robert Kocharyan, there were definitely no such incidents of Azerbaijanis crossing the border and breaking into houses," Levon Kocharyan said.
Lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan, who participated in the press conference, also responded to the incident. He pointed out that it wasn't even the Investigative Committee that released a statement on this incident, but the agency's press secretary who reported that the detainee was being taken into custody.
As a reminder, the detention of an Azerbaijani soldier was announced on October 1, 2026. According to investigators, he entered the village of Shaki in the Syunik region, where he opened fire and wounded a woman in front of her children. The wounded woman is not in danger; her condition is stable, and the children have received the necessary psychological support. The Armenian Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case against Nasimi Musayev. He is charged with illegal border crossing, smuggling and illegal arms trafficking, violating the privacy of a home, and causing grievous bodily harm. An Armenian court granted the investigator's motion and remanded him in custody for two months.
