ArmInfo. Turning issues of the preservation and use of church property into personal accusations against the Catholicos of All Armenians, and presenting buildings and structures allocated to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin as the personal property of the Armenian Patriarch, is clearly manipulative and a shameful lie. This was written on his Facebook page by Priest Yesayi Artenyan, Director of the Information System of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
He specifically noted that false claims about "seizing public buildings and turning them into ruins or businesses," as well as the publication of photographs of these structures, do not give anyone the right to make outright lies and baseless accusations.
"Claims to protect the educational interests of children are also unconvincing when the authorities themselves obstruct initiatives that serve these interests." A telling example of this is the implementation of a new educational institution within the framework of the Tumo Center program initiated by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin: this initiative, aimed at providing modern education to approximately 2,500 children and youth, is encountering artificial obstacles created by community authorities. The large-scale construction and restoration work carried out during the patriarchate of the Armenian Patriarch and aimed at preserving and enhancing the national spiritual and cultural heritage are eloquent and visible evidence of the Church's consistent efforts. Concealing these realities distorts reality and misleads the public," the priest noted.
As a reminder, on October 2, Armenian Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan signed a resolution establishing an investigative commission to address the "crisis in the Armenian Church." The decision published on the parliament's website states that the commission is being created in accordance with legislation and at the request of at least a quarter of the total number of deputies. "A parliamentary investigative commission has been established to investigate the crisis that has arisen in the church as a result of the activities of several clergymen of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the problems that have arisen as a result of their failure to fulfill their exceptional mission in the spiritual life of the Armenian people, the development of their national culture, and the preservation of their national identity," the decision states.
The commission was created at the initiative of the ruling Civil Contract faction and will be headed by MP Arman Yeghoyan.
Earlier, the Armenian government published a report on the Armenian Church, accusing church leadership of renouncing church canons and presenting a plan to abdicate the throne of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously stated the need to create an investigative commission. According to him, the commission's work should lead to the development of legislative initiatives aimed at "stopping the takeover of the Church."
The parliamentary opposition will not participate in the commission's work.
