ArmInfo. Armenia clearly has a problem with border crossings that needs to be addressed. This was stated by Andranik Kocharyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the ruling Civil Contract faction, speaking to journalists on October 5, while discussing the incident in Shaki.
Responding to a journalist's remark that an Azerbaijani soldier had reached the depths of Syunik, Andranik Kocharyan responded: "We reached them too. If the special services have a target, they will reach anywhere. Of course, not in uniform, not in this condition, not with a machine gun. So, anything is possible," the parliamentarian noted, adding that there may be uncontrolled areas on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. "This means we have a problem with border crossings that must be resolved. We're faced with a reality we must avoid. An Azerbaijani soldier not only remained on Armenian territory for two days, but also entered the apartment of our citizen. The relevant services must comb the area," Kocharyan said.
He didn't specify which specific agency was responsible for the incident. The MP believes all agencies should address border security. He also recalled that even in Soviet times, despite the presence of barbed wire, attempts were made to cross the border. "We can talk about the strength of the borders only after many years of work." "Our borders, specifically, have problems, and we need monitoring to better control them," Andranik Kocharyan noted.
Responding to a question about the mayor of Angeghakot village advising people to lock doors and keep dogs, the MP recalled that geese once saved Rome. Kocharyan, in this regard, believes that dogs can truly help.
As a reminder, on October 1, 2026, it was reported that an Azerbaijani soldier had been detained. According to investigators, he entered the village of Shaki in the Syunik region, where he opened fire and wounded a woman in front of her children. The wounded woman's life is not in danger; her condition is stable, and the children have received the necessary psychological support. The Armenian Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case against Nasimi Musayev. He is charged with illegal border crossing, smuggling and illegal arms trafficking, trespassing, and causing grievous bodily harm. An Armenian court granted the investigator's motion and remanded him in custody for two months.
