ArmInfo. October 2, 2018, will go down in the modern history of the Republic of Armenia as the day of the attack on parliament and constitutional values. Former Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and member of the board of the Republican Party, Eduard Sharmazanov, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
According to him, unprecedented illegal pressure and blackmail were exerted on parliament that day.
"The group that blackmailed the country with the slogan 'Either I will be prime minister, or Armenia will have no prime minister' besieged the National Assembly building. The gates of the National Assembly were opened, thousands of people invaded the parliament grounds, and for several hours the deputies were effectively under siege." Not a single international organization or embassy even paid attention to this. So did "democracy advocates" and numerous figures who have now become opposition figures. This was a violation of the RA Constitution, a gross violation of the principle of separation of powers and the freedom of activity of National Assembly deputies. The parliamentary majority was dissolved under pressure, paving the way for the Azerbaijanization of Artsakh and the possible vilayetization of Armenia," noted Eduard Sharmazanov.
He added that the anti-democratic and anti-state operation of October 2, 2018, paved the way for the implementation of John Bolton's anti-Armenian thesis about "abandoning historical and national stereotypes."
