ArmInfo. At one time, an incident similar to the one that occurred in the village of Shaki in Armenia's Syunik region would have been classified as a sabotage attack; now, it will most likely be assessed as military tourism. This was stated, not without a hint of sarcasm, after the court hearing by Edgar Ghazaryan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition "Strong Armenia" faction.
He recalled that the attack was carried out with the use of military weapons, resulting in the injury of a woman. Such saboteurs were previously simply eliminated, but today they are simply military tourists. "One Azerbaijani, armed with a firearm, decided to take a stroll on Armenian territory," the MP said, recalling a similar incident in the Kapan region, where local residents detained two Azerbaijanis. "One of them was convicted, stripped naked, and handed over to Azerbaijan." "By the way, no one bought me anything. What do you expect? A military tourist has come to us from friendly Azerbaijan," Edgar Ghazaryan added ironically, who was sentenced today by the court to two years in prison with a one-year probationary period.
It should be noted that today, a man armed with a machine gun, speaking Azerbaijani, entered a house in the village and wounded the homeowner in front of her three children. The woman's life is not in danger; she is receiving the necessary medical care and is under medical supervision.
As a reminder, today at 2:15 PM, the 112 emergency response center of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs received a report that an Azerbaijani had shot an Armenian citizen in the leg in the village of Shaki in the Syunik region. Task forces from various police units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were dispatched to the scene. Urgent measures were taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident. It was established that the crime was committed by an Azerbaijani serviceman, who was detained.
"Details of the incident were also provided to the Azerbaijani side. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal investigation into the incident," the National Security Service of Armenia previously reported.
