


ArmInfo. By a decision of the Yerevan City Court of Primary Instance, Edgar Ghazaryan, a public figure and member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the Strong Armenia opposition faction, was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison.
At the same time, by the decision of Judge Satenik Andreasyan, Ghazaryan was released from prison, as he was placed on probation for one year. Meanwhile, the administrative supervision measure remained unchanged.
During the hearing, Ghazaryan motioned to recuse the prosecutor and dismiss the case, but the judge rejected his motion. The prosecutor demanded a 2.5-year prison sentence for Ghazaryan and a three-year ban on public activity, but the judge imposed a one-year probationary period.
Ghazaryan was found guilty under Article 490 of the Criminal Code (insulting judges in connection with their official activities).
The deputy's defense team disagreed with the guilty verdict and intends to appeal the sentence.
As a reminder, according to the indictment, Edgar Ghazaryan was charged with publishing "information defamatory of Constitutional Court judges and damaging their rights and legitimate interests" between August 28, 2024, and October 9, 2024, in connection with the consideration of the case regarding the compliance of provisions of the regulations on the joint activities of the Border Delimitation Commissions. between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the requirements of the Constitution. Then Kazaryan called the judges of the Constitutional Court "either ignoramuses or deliberate traitors." He also stated that "the Constitutional Court has turned into a political booth for the "Civil Contract."
