ArmInfo. The concept for the preservation and adaptation to new conditions of the former building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, located on Republic Square in Yerevan, has been approved. The total investment volume is expected to exceed $150 million, according to the press service of Zvartnots International Airport.
It is noted that the concept for the reconstruction of the former Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, owned by Corporation of America Airports, was unanimously approved on September 30 by the Scientific and Methodological Council under the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic.
Zvartnots reported that the concept was developed in collaboration with the world-renowned London-based architectural and design firm Foster + Partners, as well as the Armenian architectural firm Quadrum Architectural Office, which has extensive experience in the restoration of historic buildings.
The project envisions the conversion of the existing building into a multifunctional complex that will include hotel, residential, office, and commercial space, as well as new public spaces. The project's approval was preceded by close collaboration between the architectural teams and the Scientific and Methodological Council under the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, which lasted approximately 18 months. Particular attention was paid to preserving the architectural and historical value of the building, as well as its unique cultural heritage elements.
"Our goal is to breathe new life into this iconic building, preserving its historical identity and direct connection to Republic Square, while creating a modern and dynamic environment for residents and visitors," said Martin Eurnekian, CEO of Corporacion America Airports.
The Second Government Building, formerly home to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, was sold to Tango CJSC, owned by Eduardo Eurnekian, an Argentine businessman of Armenian descent, for $51,270,840, according to a government decision in October 2012. According to the terms of the sale, the buyer agreed to invest the required amount and, after renovating the former Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, transform it into a five-star hotel of a renowned international brand, while preserving the building's historical and cultural character.
Argentine entrepreneur Eduardo Eurnekian is the owner of Corporación América, which manages the concessionary management of Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport. He is also implementing other major projects in Armenia, particularly in agriculture. The entrepreneur owns Converse Bank CJSC (72.89%, Advanced Global Investments LLC - headed by Eduardo Eurnekian).
