ArmInfo. The main cause of Yerevan's traffic jams is incompetent city management and thousands of construction permits issued without risk assessments, writes Gevorg Stepanyan, a member of the Mother Armenia faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders.
"In response to hundreds of your complaints about the endless and shameful traffic jams in Yerevan, I would like to point out that Yerevan, with its infrastructure, was not designed for such a large number of new apartment buildings and 'elite' buildings being erected at every turn. In addition to the endless traffic jams, the city faces new problems in the form of interruptions in drinking water, irrigation systems, and electricity," he noted.
According to him, in recent years, approximately 23,000 construction permits have been issued in Yerevan without considering risks. Stepanyan noted that, under the guise of issues not discussed at the Council of Elders meetings and ignoring the interests of citizens, those who have failed to manage the city are issuing construction permits left and right.
"The latest 'gift' to the residents of the Central Administrative District will be several multi-story buildings at the Tumanyan-Alaverdyan intersection. The main problem with traffic jams is this: it is a consequence of Yerevan's incompetent management," he wrote.
