The first meeting of the Steering Committee of the EU project on the conservation of Lake Sevan biodiversity took place

ArmInfo. On September 29, the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the EU project on the conservation of the biodiversity of Lake Sevan took place. The European Union Delegation to Armenia announced this in a Facebook post.

Project participants, including the European Union and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, officially launched the project, which will be implemented by UNDP.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the project's strategic direction and planned activities, approve the work plan and budget for the first year, and provide the necessary recommendations to ensure effective implementation, coordinated stakeholder collaboration, and alignment with national priorities and objectives for the restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems in the Lake Sevan basin with EU support.

"The European Union is proud to support this initiative and looks forward to working with all stakeholders over the next three years to ensure the successful implementation of the project," the EU Delegation said in a statement.

The main goal of the project is ecosystem restoration, long-term conservation of biodiversity, and sustainable development of the Lake Sevan basin. The program envisages the introduction of nature-based solutions for wastewater treatment and the reduction of anthropogenic load on the lake's ecosystem. The new project is a continuation of a previous major collaboration aimed at protecting the lake and reducing pollution. The new initiative continues this work with a focus on restoring the natural balance.
