ArmInfo. Garnik Davtyan, a member of the Strong Armenia faction, announced that he withdrew from the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tanzania after his speech was removed from the agenda.
Davtyan explained on his Facebook page that his speech was removed from the agenda after he refused to engage in discussions with Armenian Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan (Rubinyan attempted to invite Davtyan to a preliminary discussion of his speech - ed.). The Strong Armenia faction member noted that his decision was based on his familiarity with the rules of international assemblies and considered participation in such discussions inappropriate. It was precisely because of his refusal, the MP explained, that the speech was removed from the agenda.
Davtyan further recalled that Rubinyan is not the leader of his faction, and that he has no authority—either under the Law on the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly or politically—to remove his speech from the agenda. "Rubinyan can cancel speeches only if they are related exclusively to the Civil Contract faction. I declare that there are many available offices in the National Assembly where such discussions can be held. Thank God, the one and only office does not belong to Rubinyan, and I do not consider it appropriate at all to hold meetings in an office for such discussions. "You are not eternal, and the day will come when Armenia will be more worthy of representation on international platforms," the MP concluded.
As a reminder, the Armenian parliamentary delegation will participate in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held in Tanzania. The delegation, led by the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, also includes Deputy Speaker Vahagn Aleksanyan and members of parliament from the Civil Contract Party, Tsovinar Vardanyan and Hasmik Hakobyan. The delegation will be in Arusha from October 3 to 10.
