ArmInfo. On September 28, RA Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan met with members of the delegation of the Council of the European Union's Working Group on Eastern Europe and Central Asia. According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the meeting was also attended by the Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Armenia, Ambassador Vasilis Maragos, ambassadors of EU member states, representatives of diplomatic circles, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Arpine Sargsyan thanked the delegation members for their ongoing efforts to develop cooperation between Armenia and the EU. The Minister noted that close and constructive cooperation and the joint agenda established with the European Union enable tangible results.
Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Vasilis Maragos, thanked the RA Minister of Internal Affairs for her leadership in the visa liberalization process, as well as for the reforms implemented in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the police.
Arpine Sargsyan, as the chief negotiator for the visa liberalization process for the Armenian side, noted the progress of the process, calling it one of the RA government's priorities.
The Minister also emphasized Armenia's commitment and determination to fully implement the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan. Speaking about the Plan's implementation deadline, the Minister noted that the Armenian side has set 2029 as the deadline.
She estimates that proper implementation of the Plan will ensure tangible results in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring a visa-free regime.
Regarding the priorities of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan, Arpine Sargsyan also identified migration management as a key aspect. According to her, one of the most important steps in this area is the introduction of a new biometric system in a public-private partnership format, which will be launched on November 1.
Speaking about integrated border management, the Minister emphasized that Armenia is committed to transitioning to a new model aimed at ensuring security. A comprehensive border management strategy is also being developed and is scheduled to be submitted to the government for approval by the end of the year.
The Minister of Internal Affairs also answered questions from members of the delegation.
