A criminal investigation has been opened into the fire at the Tsitsernakaberd substation – the Investigative Committee

Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the fire that broke out on September 27 at the Tsitsernakaberd electrical substation in Yerevan under paragraphs 2 and 6 of Part 2 of Article 264 of the RA Criminal Code (destruction of or damage to property by arson, explosion, or other generally dangerous means, resulting in property damage on an especially large scale). This was reported by the RA Investigative Committee.

An investigative team has been formed to conduct the investigation, and the necessary investigative and procedural actions are being taken.

As a reminder, a fire broke out at the Tsitsernakaberd substation the day before, resulting in power outages for approximately 5,000 consumers, primarily in central Yerevan. A fire alarm was received by the Ministry of Internal Affairs' 112 operations center at 5:07 PM on September 27. The fire was extinguished within four hours, with 11 fire and rescue teams on scene.

The Tsitsernakaberd 110/6 kV electrical substation was built and commissioned in September 2011. The construction and installation of the facility by Electric Networks of Armenia cost approximately 6.5 billion drams. The substation was built to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to the central and surrounding areas of Yerevan, as well as to new large-scale construction projects in the capital.
