An Armenian court has extended Archbishop Galstanyan`s house arrest for two months

ArmInfo. The house arrest of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the "Sacred Struggle" movement, has been extended for another two months.

The corresponding decision was made at a hearing of the Yerevan Criminal Court of First Instance on September 24, presided over by Judge Karen Farkhoyan. According to the court's ruling, the archbishop is permitted to visit Geghard Monastery every Sunday to participate in liturgies.

During the hearing, attorney Hovhannes Khudoyan noted that the case contains information based on false evidence. He also noted that witnesses who did not testify during the preliminary investigation have been summoned. "But the intent is clear. This is being done so that in the future, prosecutors will have someone to cite and name. "Some witnesses testified without providing any information regarding the case," Khudoyan noted.

It should be recalled that in May 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan launched a broad anti-church campaign, demanding the resignation of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. As part of this campaign, a number of clergy members were detained. On June 25, 18 opposition figures and supporters of the Sacred Struggle movement, led by the movement's leader, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, were taken into custody. They are accused of attempting to "seize power" and "terrorism." "Recordings of conversations between movement members" are cited as evidence of their guilt.
