ArmInfo. A new educational complex will be built in the Vardenis community of Armenia's Gegharkunik region. The complex aims to create an accessible, modern, and competitive environment. The project will be implemented jointly with the private sector. At its meeting on September 24, the RA government approved a joint program for the construction and subsequent maintenance of the complex.
Presenting the project, RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan noted that the program is planned to be implemented jointly with the Armenian branch of the Armenian Missionary Association of America. Currently, the community Vardenis has three elementary schools and one high school, with an enrollment of over 1,500 students (two of the elementary schools have preschool departments for approximately 50 students).
It should be noted that the RA government's "300 Schools to Be Built, Renovated, or Reconstructed by 2026" program includes the construction of a high school named after G. Hambardzumyan and elementary school No. 3 in the community. Currently, plans call for the construction of two separate institutions, which is less feasible from the standpoint of cost-effectiveness and educational continuity than the construction of a single institution encompassing all levels of education. Meanwhile, the Armenian Missionary Organization of America, represented by its Armenian branch, has submitted a project for the construction of an educational complex in Vardenis. The association proposed constructing an educational complex, which would include a building housing a 300-student school, a 150-student kindergarten, and a 60-student community daycare center. Given the number of school-age children in the community, the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports proposed constructing a 700-student educational complex, while also covering the resulting financial gap, subject to certain stipulations.
Therefore, the RA government, represented by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, will sign a donation agreement with the Association and transfer the necessary funds for
the creation and ongoing maintenance of the appropriate infrastructure for the building, which will accommodate an additional 400 students. Moreover, the amount allocated from the state budget is only 57.1 percent of the actual cost of contractual work for the construction of the educational complex building, but no more than the average local cost of construction of similar schools funded by the RA state budget per student, multiplied by 400, which is 1 billion 670 million drams.
All other expenses, both capital (including property provision) and current, will be covered by the Association, whose investments will amount to 4 billion 775 million drams.
The project is planned for implementation in 2026-2029. The design phase of the educational complex is currently underway, also financed from the Association's own funds.
