The Armenian Ombudsman is on a working visit to Brussels.

ArmInfo. During her working visit to Brussels, Armenian Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with Martine Schotsmans, Director of the Belgian Federal Institute for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights.

According to the press service of the Armenian Human Rights Defender, during the meeting, issues of ensuring the independence of national human rights institutions, improving their effective mechanisms, and opportunities for developing cooperation between the two institutions were discussed.

It was emphasized that guarantees of the independence and effective functioning of national human rights institutions should be available both at the legislative level and in practice, and any legislation or practice that threatens the independence of human rights institutions should be excluded.

The parties attached great importance to strengthening professional ties between national human rights institutions and the ongoing exchange of best practices.
