“Strong Armenia”: We plan to open an agricultural produce market in Tigranashen and donate a playground to the community

ArmInfo.  The village of Tigranashen must live and develop. Opposition Strong Armenia faction secretary of the RA National Assembly Tigran Abrahamyan stated this at a briefing on September 22,

According to him, the day before, faction members were in Tigranashen, where they took part in a symbolic tree-planting event. The faction secretary reminded that, under the law "On Administrative-Territorial Division," the village is part of the territory of Armenia. "It would be good if the authorities spoke more about the development of Tigranashen rather than about handing it over to Azerbaijan. And if we are talking about development or surrender, our faction chooses the former," Tigran Abrahamyan said.

He added that "Strong Armenia" had announced programs to be implemented in Tigranashen.  It is planned to open an agricultural produce market in Tigranashen and to donate a playground to the community. "There is a serious problem with transportation: transport operating on a regular or other basis is not functioning. We decided to implement these programs using the bonus payments that were transferred to us," he said.

Tigranashen is a village in Armenia's Ararat Province, which is also disputed by Azerbaijan. [ A strategically important interstate road passes through Tigranashen, connecting Yerevan with Armenia's southern regions (Syunik) and Iran. The loss of control over this territory could create serious logistical difficulties for the country.  Against the backdrop of the border delimitation process, Armenia's leadership is discussing the fate of the enclaves. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has spoken about issues related to this territory, while the Azerbaijani toponym Kyarki is mentioned in discussions.  [Political opponents and local residents categorically oppose handing over the village, considering it a threat to national security and insisting on preserving the community as part of Armenia.
