Political scientist: Armenians will live peacefully in their homeland only when they can once again set national goals for themselves, such as Artsakh

Arminfo.  Armenians will live peacefully in their homeland only when they are able to set national goals for themselves again, such as Artsakh. Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan writes about this on his Facebook page.

According to him, few people today remember that before 2020 and 2023, a terrible anti-national thesis was constantly promoted in Armenian society, namely, that by surrendering Karabakh, it would become possible to live in peace.

"Unfortunately, many believed in it, including the thinking part of society. Three years ago, on September 19, the de facto government of Armenia, the Armenian army and a significant part of the thinking segment of society put this destructive thesis into practice, effectively agreeing to the complete occupation of Artsakh by Azerbaijan. They literally sat and silently watched what was happening. Three years have passed since the thesis ‘Let us surrender it and flee’ was voiced. However, today we are not only not living in peace, but are also facing threats that seemed incredible just three years ago," the political scientist noted.

He added that there had been open Azerbaijani aggression against Syunik and other regions of Armenia, as a result of which more than 300

square kilometers of territory are not under the sovereign control of the republic. "The territory of Armenia has already been occupied, the blockade of the republic continues, the issue of creating new Azerbaijani enclaves inside the country is being raised (in the Tavush and Ararat regions),  a Turkish corridor passing through the Republic of Armenia (under the name TRIPP) is being discussed, the threat of creating Azerbaijani communities in the Republic of Armenia remains, and so on. These are not only signs of new losses, but also signs of the disintegration of statehood, the exhaustion of social solidarity and the end of national values. This is the price and result of abandoning Artsakh. We will live peacefully here, in our homeland, only when we are able to set national goals for ourselves again, such as Artsakh. No matter how irrational the words I have written may seem, this is the only rational solution," the political scientist believes.

It should be noted that today marks the third anniversary of the surrender of Artsakh. Hundreds of citizens began arriving at the Yerablur memorial complex early in the morning to pay tribute to those who died for the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Among them was the president of Artsakh, Samvel Shahramanyan.
