Arminfo. The decision by the Armenian authorities to extend by three months the detention of former National Assembly member Martun Grigoryan, who was unlawfully detained, shows that the current regime does not intend to retreat from its repressive system, and that the chain of violations will continue. Former NA member Tigran Abrahamyan wrote this on his Facebook page.
According to him, Martun Grigoryan is like a thorn in the authorities’ side, first and foremost as a person who enjoys authority and trust in Gyumri. Against the backdrop of the ruling Civil Contract party’s plans to hold snap electoral processes there, all those who do not fit the authorities’ ideas have been and will be neutralized in various ways.
“During the discussion of changing the preventive measures, Martun clearly stated that he would never abandon his assessments and principles, and the authorities decided, in response, to extend his detention,” Tigran Abrahamyan wrote.
The previous day, the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia extended for another three months the detention of former RA National Assembly member Martun Grigoryan. The prosecutor considered that Grigoryan could exert pressure on witnesses in the case. It should be recalled that Martun Grigoryan was detained on August 13 as part of criminal proceedings initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia in a case concerning an electoral crime. On August 14, the court ordered his arrest for a period of two months.
