Prime Minister: The discourse on “Western Azerbaijan” constitutes a serious challenge and security threat to Armenia

ArmInfo.   The discourse on "Western Azerbaijan" represents a serious challenge and security threat to the Republic of Armenia. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated this on September 17, speaking at the international conference "Comprehensive Security and Resilience."

According to him, on the path toward building comprehensive security, it is very important how the authorities and society think and perceive problems.

"Many of our security problems can begin in our minds, in our perception of reality and the environment, and this problem exists in the Republic of Armenia today," the prime minister said.

According to Pashinyan, the discourse on "Western Azerbaijan" is a very serious challenge, a security threat to Armenia, as well as to regional

security and the established peace. At present, the head of government continued, Armenia is facing a challenge related to public and non-public rhetoric, and in this sense, the most serious security challenges are emerging, while the manifestations of this challenge are noticeable.

"The main problem is how we envision their resolution. In Armenia, there is much discussion of the principle of reciprocity, which, however, will never produce results. The successful conclusion of negotiations on a peace agreement took place when we decided to move away from the mechanical principle of reciprocity.  We faced a situation in which the text of the peace agreement had no potential to improve through the principle of 'ping-pong.' And we proceeded in accordance with a different logic," Nikol Pashinyan noted.

Earlier, the prime minister proposed mutually closing the topics of "Western Azerbaijan" on the part of Baku and the "return of Karabakh Armenians" on the part of Yerevan within the framework of a common "road map" to cement a final peace.
