Discussions continued at the National Assembly session on the candidacy for chair of the RA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

ArmInfo.  At a session of the National Assembly of Armenia on September 15, discussions continued on the candidacy for chair of the parliamentary committee on territorial administration and infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia.  The opposition Strong Armenia faction nominated Ruben Mkhitaryan for the position.

A record number of parliamentarians—60—signed up to speak regarding the candidate for head of the committee. Before that, Ruben Mkhitaryan answered questions from National Assembly deputies, primarily those from the ruling faction.

In particular, responding to a question from National Assembly deputy Nazeli Baghdasaryan of the Civil Contract faction regarding illegally acquired property, the candidate urged attention to the "beautiful plot" of the Tsayg television company in Gyumri, located in the city square.  Baghdasaryan clearly disliked Mkhitaryan’s response and demanded that the matter be referred to the Prosecutor General’s Office.  "I am even demanding this. Otherwise, forgive me, but I will not be able to respect you. Let them open a criminal case, because in this case you will be summoned to court for making a false denunciation. I guarantee this to you," said the ruling party representative.

The opposition deputy, in turn, stressed: "Ms. Baghdasaryan, to be honest, I did not understand why you reacted so sharply."

Later, representatives of the opposition and the authorities continued to needle each other, at times turning to a verbal altercation.
