ArmInfo. The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), despite all the injustices and repressions carried out against it, will continue to play its role in Armenia’s social and political life. This is stated in a declaration by the political force published on its Facebook page.
Thus, the party assured that the problems troubling the people and the challenges facing the state will remain at the center of its agenda. "Remaining faithful to our program, we will propose our approaches and solutions and present them to our society. We remain faithful to our voters and the promises made to society. For us, the words of PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan, spoken several months ago, serve as a guide: "This program is not for one month or just one election," the political force recalled.
The party also attached great importance to working with international partners and emphasized that it was undertaking the obligation to defend the interests of Armenia and the Armenian people on all international platforms. "In addition, we consider cooperation within the country with various political and public associations important—for the benefit of our state. We would like to emphasize the key formulation of our leader: at this historically difficult stage for Armenia, the most important factor is internal unity," the party noted.
This unity, as the PAP noted, has been disrupted today, and one of the proofs of this, it said, is the unlawful deprivation of Tsarukyan’s liberty. "His release and the protection of his good name are among the key demands of our struggle. This struggle will not stop for a second until justice is restored. Gagik Tsarukyan’s high rating, broad public support and dignified position, which he demonstrated in difficult situations, give us all great confidence and resilience. Freedom for Gagik Tsarukyan, freedom for all political prisoners, freedom for Armenians held in Baku!" the PAP concluded. It should be noted that the declaration was signed by the heads and representatives of the PAP’s territorial structures.
It should be recalled that on July 6, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party and businessman Gagik Tsarukyan was detained and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia. He is accused of organizing fraud and the legalization (laundering) of funds on an especially large scale. According to the investigators, in 2022- 2024 a group operating under his leadership, under the pretext of developing trade and economic ties between Armenia and Iran, established joint legal entities involving Iranian citizens, after which it implemented a fraudulent scheme, causing damage amounting to more than $21 million.
In addition, Gagik Tsarukyan has been charged with another offense—illegal hunting. On July 7, the court granted the prosecution’s motion to remand Tsarukyan in custody for two months. On September 4, the court extended Tsarukyan’s detention for another two months. As part of the case, on July 6 law enforcement agencies conducted searches at more than 70 addresses linked to Tsarukyan. The doors of all the enterprises were sealed afterward. Some of them were nationalized by the state. On August 31, the Public Committee for the Protection of Gagik Tsarukyan was established in the republic with the aim of protecting human rights, justice and the rule of law in Armenia.
