Mikhail Galuzin called the EU’s promises to Armenia “ephemeral”

Arminfo.  The European Commission’s refusal to confirm a specific timeframe for introducing a visa-free regime with Armenia demonstrates the ephemeral nature of Brussels’ promises regarding the republic’s “European future.” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin told Izvestia.

“For example, quite recently, when the European Commission essentially directly refuted Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that visa liberalization would be achieved by 2029. This underscores the ephemeral nature of the promises of a ‘beautiful European future’ and the utilitarian way in which Brussels perceives the Armenian state,” the diplomat said.

According to him, Moscow believes that European countries perceive Armenia primarily from the perspective of their own economic and political interests.

“In their ‘wards,’ Europeans see only a source of resources and labor, as well as a completely deindustrialized market for their own goods and services, including security services, for which one has to pay dearly in every sense,” Galuzin added.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously named 2029 as a possible target date for establishing a visa-free regime with the European Union. However, the European Commission stated that it was premature to speak of a specific date for completing the process.
