“We watched these videos, which flooded social media, with deep pain and indignation. Armenia’s ‘friends’ dance in Shushi and watch and listen with ‘admiration’ as our churches and historical and cultural monuments, which have stood for centuries, preserving the prayers of our saints, the blood of martyrs and the creative spirit of the people, are turned into Albanian structures. What a terrible distortion of history unfolding before our eyes,” Aram I said in a statement published on Facebook. According to him, this truly shocking phenomenon is the result of Armenian disunity and short-sighted policies. “A sad phenomenon that should prompt us to self-awareness and unity around the highest and common values, interests and ideals of our homeland and nation. We hope and pray that the parts of ‘real’ Armenia will not suffer the fate of Shushi, hidden behind the false facade of peace,” the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia concluded.

It should be noted that at the end of last week it became known that representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps accredited in Baku visited occupied Artsakh. They visited Shushi and Stepanakert, where the Azerbaijani occupation regime is erasing all Armenian presence under the silent encouragement of the so-called civilized international community. They then visited the Armenian monasteries of Dadivank and Gandzasar and listened with admiration to the tales told by Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev that these were allegedly Albanian holy sites.  Among the participants was also the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Magdalena Grono, who told journalists  of her intention to visit Armenia after Azerbaijan and occupied Artsakh.
