General Levon Mnatsakanyan marks his 61st birthday in captivity in Baku

Arminfo. Today is the birthday of former Defense Army commander, Lieutenant General Levon Mnatsakanyan, which, unfortunately, he is marking in a Baku prison. Former Armenian parliament member Tigran Abrahamyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.

"Unlike many who are indifferent to the struggle, resistance and freedom, Mnatsakanyan continues all of this from an Azerbaijani prison. Levon Mnatsakanyan and the Armenians in Baku prisons refuse to surrender in the face of life’s difficult ordeal, and despite the physical danger threatening their lives, the general does not hesitate to speak the truth, does not deny his role in the national liberation struggle, and does not disavow it. Dear General, happy birthday! I am sure your inner feelings tell you that we remember you, value you immensely and await your return," Abrahamyan wrote.

It should be noted that General Mnatsakanyan has been held captive in Baku since the end of September 2023. The international community continues to turn a blind eye to the fact that he is being illegally detained by the Azerbaijani occupation regime.

It should be noted that the exact number of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages held in Azerbaijani prisons remains unknown. Experts estimate that there are several hundred of them. Today, the Azerbaijani authorities confirm that they are holding 19 Armenians.  Among those held in Azerbaijani captivity are 8 former and current representatives of Artsakh’s military-political leadership. They include former Artsakh presidents Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan and Arayik Harutyunyan, former Foreign Minister David Babayan, as well as parliament speaker David Ishkhanyan, former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, General Levon Mnatsakanyan, General David Manukyan and former State Minister Ruben Vardanyan.

In February, a Baku puppet court sentenced Arayik Harutyunyan, David Babayan, David Ishkhanyan, David Manukyan and Levon Mnatsakanyan to life imprisonment on fabricated charges, while Bako Sahakyan, Arkady Ghukasyan and Ruben Vardanyan were sentenced to 20 years in prison.  The so-called court sentenced the remaining Artsakh Armenians to up to 15 years in prison.
