National Assembly Speaker Accuses Opposition MP of Making a “Stupid” Joke

ArmInfo. The next plenary session of the National Assembly of Armenia began on September 14, with a total of six issues on its agenda, including the government’s report on the implementation of the country’s state budget in the first half of 2026.

As practice shows, heated discussions and clashes of interests are expected. This became evident already during the presentation of the session’s agenda by NA Speaker Ruben Rubinyan. Thus, NA deputy from the opposition Strong Armenia faction Edgar Ghazaryan asked the speaker why the agenda did not include a report on the work carried out by the Central Electoral Commission. He also asked the NA speaker what was behind the absence from the agenda of the issue of electing the parliament’s speaker. “Does this mean that you are not going to resign?” the oppositionist asked.

In response, Rubinyan noted that if this was intended as a joke, it was a “stupid” joke. As for the issue of the CEC report, the speaker suggested contacting the relevant NA commission.
