The Prosecutor General`s Office of Armenia and the European Public Prosecutor`s Office signed a cooperation agreement

ArmInfo. On September 11, in Luxembourg, RA Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan and Prosecutor General of the European Public Prosecutor's Office Laura Codruta Kovesi signed a cooperation agreement. This was reported by the supervisory authority's press service.

According to the source, the document aims to strengthen cooperation between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia and the European Public Prosecutor's Office in the area of investigations and prosecutions carried out within their respective jurisdictions. The document places particular emphasis on combating financial crime, taking into account the need to effectively protect the financial interests of the Republic and the European Union. According to the working agreement, the parties will provide each other with maximum assistance in obtaining information and evidence in specific cases within the framework of current national legislation and relevant international legal instruments.

Another important area of cooperation is the freezing, seizure, and confiscation of criminally obtained assets. The parties, within their respective competencies and in accordance with current legislation, may also cooperate in the format of joint investigation teams. The agreement also provides for joint training, cooperation in organizing seminars, master classes, and conferences, as well as mutual technical and other assistance.

Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan, emphasizing the importance of signing a document that elevates cooperation with the European Public Prosecutor's Office to a qualitatively new level, noted: "Financial crimes, by their nature, often transcend the borders of a single state, and the movement of criminally obtained funds can pass through multiple jurisdictions. Therefore, for their effective detection and the return of criminally obtained assets, rapid, coordinated, and reliable cooperation between law enforcement agencies is essential. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia attaches great importance to establishing this new level of cooperation with the European Public Prosecutor's Office. I am convinced that this agreement will be of practical importance both in terms of protecting the EU's financial interests and in enhancing the effectiveness of the fight against financial crimes of interest to the Republic of Armenia and the European Union. Our goal is to ensure that the transfer of illegally obtained assets to other countries does not become a guarantee of impunity."

Commenting on the agreement, the Prosecutor General of the European Union, Laura Codruta Kövesi, stated: "Today, together with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, we agreed on how we will cooperate in the fight against crimes that damage the EU budget through fraud. Criminals don't stop at borders, and neither do we. We will track the money they have stolen fraudulently, no matter where they hide it, and we will recover it."

The working agreement enters into force today, September 11, 2026.
