“Strong Armenia” Responds to Pashinyan’s Claims That Calling Tigranashen Armenian Territory Would Lead to War

ArmInfo.  Narek Karapetyan, leader of the “Strong Armenia” faction, reacted to today’s statements by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that there will be war if the village of Tigranashen in the Ararat region is referred to as Armenian territory.

“Today Pashinyan stated that if we do not fulfill Azerbaijan’s demand, there will be war. So, apparently, everything Azerbaijan has been saying lately, we should cross ourselves and say: we will do it, as long as there is no war. Change the constitution so there will be no war, remove the Declaration of Independence or there will be war, hand over Tigranashen or there will be war, accept so many people or there will be war. And the village, then?

This is not diplomacy—it is one-sided concessions,” Karapetyan protested.

According to the opposition politician, this is precisely why their political force says that, through diplomatic means and in accordance with Armenia’s laws, Tigranashen must remain Armenian. He added that negotiations must be conducted on the ground in such a way that Tigranashen continues to remain Armenian. In his words, all trade passes along this route, and there is no need to constantly frighten people with war.

During a briefing today, the Armenian prime minister once again stated that the village of Tigranashen in the Ararat region is an “Azerbaijani enclave” and that its fate will be determined during negotiations. In his words, all those who say otherwise are provoking war.
