ArmInfo. Recently, there has been an increase in statistics on the detection and removal of drugs from illegal circulation. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Kazaryan stated this at a meeting of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia’s Defense and Security Committee on September 11.
"The detection of larger quantities of drugs at the border is a significant factor. If we look at the statistics of recent years, they have been growing year by year. This is, in general, a global trend, and we can also explain it by improved cooperation among law enforcement agencies. We cannot say whether the detection of drugs is the result of good work or whether the volume of illegal trafficking has increased," the deputy minister said.
He noted that this could also be explained by a change in strategy.
"Over the past two years, the police have shifted their focus toward supporting and preventing the detection of larger quantities of drugs at the border," the deputy minister stressed.
