A New Era of Classical Music: The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia Opens Its 101st Concert Season with a World Premiere

ArmInfo. The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia opens its 101st concert season with the world premiere of a groundbreaking cinematic show based on Aram Khachaturian's ballet "Spartacus."

The concert will take place at the Khachaturian Rooftop on September 10 at 9:00 PM. The immersive cinematic show of Aram Khachaturian's ballet "Spartacus" will be presented to Yerevan audiences by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, New Generation Project, and DJAN AI Studio.

Under the direction of the orchestra's Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Eduard Topchyan, a film based on the ballet "Spartacus," created especially for this project, will be shown on a large screen installed on the roof of the concert hall, alongside the live performance of the ballet's music. The film, created using artificial intelligence, is a historical blockbuster. It was directed by Artyom Baghdasaryan, founder and artistic director of DJAN AI Studio and president of the Armenian Guild of Film Directors and Producers.

This is not just a concert, but a new format created at the intersection of music and visual art. The project was developed specifically for the Khachaturian Rooftop open-air venue and combines live symphonic music with large-scale visual art.

Speaking about this project, Maestro Topchyan noted that Aram Khachaturian's ballet "Spartacus" is one of the most powerful expressions of our identity, the freedom-loving spirit of man, and musical thought. For the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, performing this brilliant work is always a tremendous responsibility and pride, but this project is truly unique. Classical music can and should keep up with the times. The combination of live orchestral sound and the visual possibilities provided by AI creates a completely new reality.

This is not just a concert, but a spectacular performance that engages all the senses. I am delighted that, together with New Generation Project and DJAN AI Studio, we are bringing this bold innovation to life in the atmospheric open-air space of the Khachaturian Rooftop. I am confident that thanks to this cinematic format, our audience will discover "Spartacus" from a completely new and unexpected perspective," said the conductor.

As the press service of the National Philharmonic Orchestra told ArmInfo, the 18th Yerevan International Festival, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, is among the key events of this concert season. The festival opens on September 18 with a concert featuring renowned pianist Jean-Eflam Bavouzet (France) and renowned maestro-conductor Kirill Karabits (United Kingdom, Ukraine). Masterpieces by Avet Terteryan, Jean Sibelius, Maurice Ravel, and Myroslav Skoryk will be performed. The festival's final concert will take place on November 14, with a solo concert by the legendary Grigory Sokolov.
