ArmInfo. Armenia does not intend to abandon the law on the EU accession process. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a briefing with journalists on September 3.

He noted that before the adoption of this law, Armenia could be considered a country with no alternative. Thanks to its adoption, according to the Prime Minister, Armenia has found itself on the global radar. "Because we have significant achievements in foreign policy, and without this law, this would not have been possible. That is, we would continue to follow with aggrieved and nervous eyes the statements about "who needs Armenia?" and "where will it go?"," Pashinyan noted.

In this regard, he stated that he extremely positively evaluates the adoption of this law. "There are partners who ask: "Maybe you should repeal this law?" "I answer that this is impossible, since this is not a matter of the political will of the National Assembly, but of civil society," the head of government said.

As a reminder, on January 9, 2025, the Armenian government approved a draft law on the launch of the process of joining the European Union, proposed by the "Eurakve" civic initiative. The draft was sent to the Armenian parliament for approval. On March 26, the parliament adopted it in its final reading and sent it to the president for signature. The document was signed on April 4 of that year. Moscow stated that Russia had conveyed to Armenia that simultaneous membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union was impossible. It should be added that on August 24, 2026, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced from the parliamentary rostrum that the country intends to apply for EU membership in the near future. At the same time, he expressed his conviction that the Republic would have to hold a referendum regarding its membership in the EU or the EAEU only after submitting an application for membership in the European Union and receiving a response to this application.
