Lavrov: Armenia`s desire to join the European Union will soon disappear

ArmInfo. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on September 3 that Armenia's desire to join the European Union (EU) will soon fade.

"I am confident that they will lose this desire very soon," Lavrov said at the "Diplomacy of Truth" session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026).

He also noted that the EU has become an openly aggressive anti-Russian bloc. According to Lavrov, it will not last long in this capacity and will not retain its original purpose, Izvestia reports.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on August 31 that Armenia's referendum on joining the European Union will highlight the differences between Armenians and citizens of Iceland, which recently held a referendum on European integration. The Kremlin spokesman also addressed Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that Russia is not considered a strategic partner for the republic. However, Moscow continues to believe that cooperation between the countries is beneficial for the peoples of both countries.
