ArmInfo. The water level in Lake Sevan has reached its highest level in 64 years, according to Levon Azizyan, Director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center of the RA Ministry of Environment.

As of September 1, 2026, the specialist noted, the water level of Lake Sevan was 1900.70 meters. This figure is the highest level in the last 64 years.

"2026 continues to stand out for Lake Sevan's hydrological regime, occupying a unique place among long-term observations," Levon Azizyan emphasized.

Lake Sevan is the largest high-altitude freshwater lake in the Caucasus, located in a mountain basin at an altitude of approximately 1900 meters above sea level. Its surface area is approximately 1240 km², and its depth reaches 95 meters. Only one river, the Hrazdan, flows out of the lake, while 28 rivers flow into it. Sevan's water is a vibrant blue, but it's cool—even in summer, the temperature rarely exceeds 20-22°C. The lake is famous for its native fish (whitefish, the endemic trout) and its population of the rare Armenian gull. The lake is the largest reservoir of drinking water.
